iPod people: What's on your playlist?

What do you listen to on your headphones during the workday?

It's no secret that many people sitting at a desk all day use music to help them get through a day. Walk through any office and you'll find rows of cubicle inhabitants moving their heads to the music on their headphones. We wanted to know what you listen to during the workday. Here's what some of you had to say:

"I could not make it through the day without my iPod. I use it so much that they call me iPod, so as not to confuse me with another co-worker who has the same 1st name as me. On stressful days, I mainly listen to classical music or my 'mellow' playlist. On lighter days, I'll listen to my Brazilian playlist and movie soundtracks. Being able to listen to music at work is a real stress buster." -Karen K., Naperville

"The Beatles[12] song, 'You Never Give Me Your Money,' would at least be soothing lyrics to listen to in my headphones but as an outbound collector of past due debts, I mostly listen to unanswered dial tones, voice mail announcements, hang-ups, or the response "I ain't got no money and nothing has changed." -CJH, Elgin.

"I listen to books on tape and DVDs during the workday." -Tracy M., Rockford

"I listen to a lot of dance music at work. It seems like that's not the stuff you'd want to listen to when you're stuck in a desk all day but I have to say, if my toes are tapping and I'm moving to the music, my day goes by in a flash." -Jennifer S., Harvard

"My boss has a new hang-up about headphones so we can't wear them anymore during the office, even though all we're doing is coding all day. As a result, everyone plays music directly from their PC speakers, which is really annoying. And to combat all that noise, I listen to old, hard stuff, like Bad Brains. Drives my co-workers nuts." -Andy C., Streamwood

"Classical music. It soothes the soul. And where I work, the soul needs a lot of soothing." -M.R., River Grove

"I usually listen to hard rock or heavy metal on my headphones at work, but whatever I listen to, it's loud. I have to share space with people whose mouths have no 'off' buttons and the volume knob is busted and stuck on '11.' I know all I want to know about their home lives, personal business and how yummy their friggin' yogurt was this morning (they milked 30 minutes out of that one). Funny thing is that I never hear them talk work. Even funner is that the worst offender makes a big show out of reaching for HER headphones when the noise level gets to her. Pot, meet Kettle. LOL." -Greg, Naperville
